In 2003, Greg Dalton began working with students and young adults in
terms of their career choice and career management. Over the subsequent
years, Greg had on many an occasion the need to refer some of these
individuals on to more suitable support in that of counsellors, therapists or
psychiatrists.
The need for this additional support seemed to be due to the stresses and
strains society and existing systems placed on these individuals on making
such critical choices for their lives at such a tender stage of life without any
apparent structure to assist their choices. Often these individuals sought
advice from friends, family, teachers and peers. This advice was given with
the best of intentions, without any formal processes engaged.
This pressure on these people often led them to make hasty decisions
about their career without thorough examination of the individuals own
personal ambitions, emotions, skills, capabilities or behavioural traits.
This pressure placed on these people all too often led them to feel
undervalued, uncertain and insecure, leading to some form of stress related
illnesses or symptoms.
We hear all too often of someone taking their lives by suicide. It is the
belief of Greg that these deaths are sometimes linked to these stresses
placed on these people at too early a stage of their lives.
In May of 2010, Greg set up a Facebook page to make a statement to the
systemic bodies that these individuals need additional support. Within a few
short weeks, it became evident that this support was indeed desperately
needed.
After receiving many encouraging communications from private individuals,
organisations and politicians Greg decided to form a legal entity (Ó Lá Go
Lá Teoranta) with charitable status with the sole objective of suicide
prevention.
We are now working with many organisations and agencies to the
betterment of suicide prevention not only in Ireland but world wide.
Thanks to all members, staff & volunteers, past and present we now have
the most innovative and groundbreaking process in suicide prevention, our
mission is to remain at the forefront of suicide prevention throughout the
world. Without their input, support and enthusiasm this organisation would
never have been formed and the lives of many may have been put at risk.
